Help Wanted

Grant Cargill

My enquiry is about an Adam Wilson Duncan born 1880 in Carnoustie, Scotland.  Adam split up with his wife and ran off with a mascot (actress/singer) to Nuneaton.  I have only recently discovered this part of my family history. The lady in question was called Martha Ibbotson or Simpson who had the stage name of Martha Payne. In 1909 Adam's address was 39 William Street, Attleborough, Nuneaton.  Adam was originally a baker by trade and may well have continued with that profession when in Nuneaton. Adam died in Nuneaton in the first quarter of 1963. Please does anyone have any information on either of these people or know anyone who is related to either?  I do not know if they ever married or if Adam had children by Martha or any other woman.  Martha was known as the 'White Coon' in the Carnoustie area as she performed with a group of that name. Thank you, Grant Cargill email: Gcargill@btinternet.com

Index of Birth, Death and Marriage Announcements 1772 - 1939

This index, taken from local Coventry newspapers, includes not only Coventry but also all surrounding parishes (Foleshill, Keresley, Coundon, Cheylesmore, Exhall to name a few).  From around 1838 non-conformist marriages are included, such as Catholic, Warwick Lane Chapel, West Orchard Chapel, Vicar Lane Chapel, Friends Meeting House, Cow Lane Chapel, Independent Church, Well Street, Independent Chapel, Foleshill, Great Meeting House and Wesleyan Chapel, Warwick Lane.  Deaths in the House of Industry, Barracks, Workhouse, Bablake Hospital, City Hospital, and Fords Hospital appear from around 1841.

Lost an ancestor?  There are many stray marriages and deaths included, in this country and abroad. Going on holiday for the “benefit of your health” sometimes had the opposite effect!  Also included in this index are birth, marriage and death announcements for north Warwickshire 1808 - 1870.  email diane.fisher2@btinternet.com
